Sometime earlier this month I sprained my neck. It wasn’t a pleasant experience at all. While trying to begin production of some heavy duty hardwood tables, I found myself carrying a 24kg wooden top from point A to Point B (a 150 metres journey).

During my journey, I encountered some young boys who were offering to help me carry the weight. Yes, I could have obliged but I honestly don’t know why I figured it would be better for me to save some money I would have given in appreciating them. Somewhere along the 60-seconds journey, my neck was sprained and I couldn’t turn a complete 180-degrees without feeling intense pain.

The experience got me thinking. Seriously thinking. I realize that over the years I’ve been someone whose strength can be considered as GIVING. However, I realized that it has been difficult for me to ask for help whenever I needed it. I failed to realize that many times we pray to God for help, he uses human beings 99.99% of the time. Ofcourse he can use a donkey or a raven to bless or help you but in most cases that’s usually when there’s no person nearby He could access.

I’m learning to see life in a more 360-degree view even though my neck can only view in less than 180-degrees. More than ever before, I’m learning to ask for help even if it will require me paying N100 to the one who is helping me as compared to paying N100,000 to the therapist who will heal me. It’s sad that we sometimes have to experience a sprained neck before we subject ourselves to asking for help. And even with a sprained neck, some of us will still stubbornly feel that we can heal by ourselves.

This is a subtle call to ask for help in carrying that weight. Superman and Spiderman only exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You can’t do it by yourself. Even Spiderman, Black Panther, Iron man and other super heroes we watch in films achieved greater success when they eventually team up to fight the Thanos of their lives.

As we enter a new year, may we not carry burdens that could have been made lighter if someone helped out, even if we have to pay for the help. I celebrate you as you begin 2022 in wisdom.

In the spirit of asking for help, please if you have any extra BMW 750i series (any color will do even if it’s pink), I would be grateful if you can just borrow me for just 6 months. God bless you
